Residents may not know that we are members of the Glamorgan Archives Committee. The committee oversees the running of the joint archive covering most of South Wales. Its is based in Leckwith, Cardiff.
We have been finding out more about the ‘Glamorgan’s Blood’ project. The project brings together a collection of National Coal Board documents and maps dating back to the early 1900’s.
It was a delight for us to see some maps of the mine workings of Abercynon Colliery (Dowlais Cardiff) from 1933. Both of us have a historical connection to Abercynon Colliery with many of our family members having worked at the coal mine. Many others in Abercynon Ward will have a similar link to the former colliery at Abercynon. The archive is free to access and offers tours to groups and schools. The archive has thousands of historical documents and artefacts related to South Wales.
